How to Apply Vinyl
Vinyl comes in THREE layers – 1. Backing (bottom layer) - 2. Vinyl - 3. Application Tape (top layer) STEP ONE Clean area where you wish to apply your vinyl. Make sure that your area is free of wax, oil, dirt, dust, etc. This will prevent your vinyl from adhering well to the surface. STEP TWO After area is clean and dry, use a pencil and ruler to lightly mark where you would like the decal. This will help keep your decal straight and exactly where you’d like. STEP THREE Take the decal aside and rub the top of the decal, the application tape, firmly with a squeegee or a credit card. This will help the decal separate from the backing. STEP FOUR Line your decal up with your pencil marking and tape the very top portion of decal with masking tape to the wall or area. STEP FIVE Make sure that this looks right and carefully pull the backing off of your decal. Use a squeegee or credit card to firmly rub the decal onto the area as you pull the backing off. STEP SIX Rub all bubbles (if any) out with a squeegee or credit card. Once again rub the entire decal to make sure that it is on the area well and pull the application tape back very slowly and carefully. Note: Some letters or designs need extra help, so go as slow as you can and adhere those letters that did not stick well as you go. STEP SEVEN After removing the application tape, run your finger along each letter to ensure your decal isn’t going anywhere :) Difficulties Applying Vinyl Keep in mind that vinyl applies best to smooth, flat surfaces. Glass and wood are ideal and will rarely give you any troubles. Walls are the most popular application surface and add beauty, whimsy, inspiration and creativity to any room. However it is to be noted that not all walls are created equally. Each home's walls have different tactile qualities. We have found that older homes with rougher texture on the walls will take more time to apply the vinyl. And the vinyl may try to peel or lift, if this happens take your time in the application process and use your fingers to gently press the vinyl to the wall. Also, high gloss paint can cause the vinyl to not want to stick as easily. If this applies to your home DON'T WORRY! The vinyl WILL stick to your walls, however patience may be required. While most surfaces the application process is easy and quickly done. It is always best to go slow, have patience and your work will be greatly rewarded with a beautiful design! TIP FOR APPLYING VINYL TO CAR WINDOWS-DO NOT try to apply vinyl to a hot car. The heat can melt the vinyl and distort or crinkle your decal. The best times to install your decal will be morning or late evening, when it is cool. |
